Nov 4, 2010

Milpitas, Calif., November 4, 2010 - SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK), the global leader in flash memory cards, today announced that SanDisk Chairman and CEO, Eli Harari, will lead the opening bell ceremony at the NASDAQ Stock Exchange on Monday, November 8, 2010, to mark SanDisk's fifteenth year as a NASDAQ listed company. A live video of the event can be viewed on NASDAQ's tower video and also available at at approximately 9:30 a.m., Eastern Time.

In 1988, Harari founded SanDisk with Sanjay Mehrotra and Jack Yuan, building the company into a globally recognized brand with total annual revenues approaching $5 billion. SanDisk pioneered the development of flash memory cards that fueled the rapid growth of vast new markets while replacing existing technologies such as floppy disks, 35mm film and CDs. Today's milestone comes at a time when NAND flash memory enjoys unprecedented popularity among millions of consumers who own mobile phones, MP3 players, digital cameras, USB flash drives and tablet computers.

"We always believed our revolutionary flash technology would change our world, and I am glad to say that SanDisk exceeded our best expectations," said Harari. "Thousands of our dedicated and talented employees made this journey possible, and SanDisk's success is a testament to their efforts. The rate of change is accelerating faster than ever, and we will continue innovating as we reach for the significant opportunities that lie before us."

During its 22-year history, SanDisk achieved a number of important milestones:

Timeline of innovation

  • In 1994, SanDisk invented the CompactFlash® memory card, marking the end of 35mm film and the arrival of digital photography
  • In 1997, SanDisk shipped its one-millionth flash memory card
  • In 1999, SanDisk and Toshiba established their joint manufacturing partnership, which today accounts for 40 percent of worldwide NAND flash production
  • In 2000, M-Systems, an Israeli company acquired by SanDisk, invented the USB flash drive-originally the DiskOnKey-which transformed the way people carry their work files
  • In 2005, SanDisk announced the microSD™ format, the world's smallest memory card and the primary removable storage format for the majority of mobile phones
  • In 2010, SanDisk launched the integrated SSD (iSSD), designed specifically for use in tablet PCs and ultra-thin notebook computers.
